The Commodore's Cup:

Named in honor of the JYC Commodores, the Commodore's Cup is JYSailing's annual racing championship. It's usually held in August, and doubles as our end-of-season closing party. The Cup is open to pairs of youths, with priority given to those who have compleated the highest level classes. The use of trapezes and spinnakers is decided on at the event, and there is often a CCup Open Class for adults, run either before the CCup or during, depending on how high turnout is (or in other words: depending on how rainy it is). Be sure to join our mailing list (send us an e-mail) to make sure you're notified when the time to register approaches.

For many years, the Commodore's Cup was the feeder event for competing on the JYS team at the Northwest Junior Olympic Sailing championships in Washington. Lately we've chosen to keep our focus more local, but JOs was always a good time, and a triumphant return might be in the cards someday.

JYS has not held a Commodore's Cup since 2005. They are a rather large lift administratively, and we have not made racing a focus of the program in a long time, largely due to the lack of a dedicated race coach. We would love to see this event return. (The trophy is still in my basement - we could start adding names again!) Drop us a line if you would like to volunteer to help make this happen!
